The 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering

Important | 2025-10-28

The year 2025 marks a special milestone for the Institute of Biomedical Engineering as it celebrates its 25th anniversary—a quarter-century of scientific advancement, innovation, and dedicated work.

This significant occasion was crowned by a celebratory event on October 3, which brought together members of the university community, colleagues from other higher education institutions, industry partners, and institute alumni.

The celebration opened with reflections from the Institute’s founder and current Scientific Director, Prof. habil. dr. Arūnas Lukoševičius, who shared the story of the Institute’s early years and the challenges of establishing research projects and earning recognition on the international stage. Institute Director Prof. Vaidotas Marozas followed with an overview of current research initiatives, key achievements, and the Institute’s future ambitions.

A central highlight of the event was a panel discussion titled “What Synergies Can Be Achieved Through Collaboration Between Science, Clinical Practice, and Industry in Health Technologies?”
Participants included Prof. Andrius Kubilius, Head of the Rehabilitation Clinic at LSMU Kaunas Clinics; entrepreneur and founder/CEO of DhealthIQ, Mindaugas Leonavičius; Prof. Aušra Saudargienė, Head of the Biophysics and Bioinformatics Laboratory at the LSMU Neuroscience Institute; and Prof. habil. dr. Arūnas Lukoševičius, Scientific Director of the KTU Institute of Biomedical Engineering.
Their conversation explored emerging directions for collaboration, the realities of interdisciplinary teamwork, and new ideas for accelerating innovation and ensuring that scientific breakthroughs reach clinical practice and industry. We sincerely thank all panelists and attendees for their insights and contributions, and extend special appreciation to moderator Mindaugas Bulota, Head of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, for guiding an engaging and thoughtful discussion.

We also extend our gratitude to KTU Rector Prof. Eugenijus Valatka, the Vice-Rector team, colleagues, friends, and everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone. Your support, trust and encouragement inspire us to set even more ambitious goals.

For us, these 25 years mean much more than a number—they reflect the people, ideas, and shared belief in the power of science. Our Institute’s story has been built by researchers, students, partners, and friends who work together to drive innovation and create real value in health technologies, helping improve health for our entire society.

We are grateful to our whole community for your trust and involvement. With your support, we step confidently into a new chapter of growth.
