Institute Researcher Presents Research and Strengthens International Collaboration in Brussels

From 3 to 5 June, Assoc. Prof. dr. Andrius Rapalis, a researcher at Biomedical Engineering Institute, participated in a series of international science, innovation, and technology events in Brussels (Belgium). The visit provided an opportunity to engage with the European research and innovation community, present the Institute’s research activities, and explore new avenues for international collaboration.

Focus on European Competitiveness at the EIC Summit

On 3 June, Dr. Rapalis attended the EIC Summit 2026, the annual flagship event of the European Innovation Council (EIC), which brought together approximately 2,500 representatives of Europe’s deep-tech ecosystem. Researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers gathered to discuss how Europe can strengthen its competitiveness, address key innovation challenges, and attract greater private investment in research and innovation.

Presentation on Deep Vein Thrombosis Prevention

The following day, Dr. Rapalis participated in “Trends in Medical Devices for Personalised Healthcare”, an event organized by the Lithuanian RDI Liaison Office in Brussels (LINO), the Slovak Liaison Office for Research and Development (SLORD), and SwissCore, the Swiss information and liaison office for European research, innovation, and education.

The event explored emerging trends in medical device technologies and their growing role in personalized healthcare. During the programme, Dr. Rapalis delivered a presentation entitled “Continuous Monitoring and Prevention for Deep Vein Thrombosis”, highlighting innovative approaches to the continuous monitoring and prevention of deep vein thrombosis.

Strengthening International Cooperation

On 5 June, Dr. Rapalis joined a meeting with representatives of the Moldovan delegation and the Moldovan Office for Science and Technology. The discussions focused on shared priorities in science, technology, and innovation, with particular attention given to strengthening innovation ecosystems, fostering collaboration between researchers and industry, and expanding international partnerships.

Participation in these events helped raise the visibility of the Institute’s research at the European level, facilitated new professional connections, and contributed to the development of international cooperation in science and innovation.
