The international scientific conference “Computing in Cardiology 2026” (CinC 2026) was held in Madrid, Spain, from 20 to 23 September.
PhD student at the Institute Karolina Eitminavičienė received the prestigious Gary and Bill Sanders Poster Award for an outstanding poster presentation. Established in 1997, the award recognises and promotes excellence in scientific poster presentations.

The poster presented a study on the detection of acute myocardial infarction using a wearable device. The researchers analysed clinical electrocardiographic features and assessed whether adding peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO₂) data could improve the accuracy of myocardial infarction detection. The academic preprint is available here.
Poster presentations are evaluated by a committee of CinC Board members and selected conference participants. The evaluation considers both the quality of the poster and the scientific discussion it generates. Award recipients are not ranked. K. Eitminavičienė was one of six recipients of the award in 2026. The conference programme featured a total of 280 poster presentations, with 256 presented in person and 24 remotely. More information about the award is available here.
The Institute was also represented by researcher dr. Vilma Pluščiauskaitė, who delivered the oral presentation “Quantifying Temporal Association Between Intrathoracic Impedance and Atrial Fibrillation Using a Relational Strength Measure”.

The presentation focused on a study investigating a possible temporal association between changes in intrathoracic impedance and episodes of atrial fibrillation. The findings suggested a possible bidirectional association: atrial fibrillation episodes were associated with periods both before and after a decrease in impedance. However, the direction of the observed association depended on the selected impedance metric and the duration of the analysed time window.
The presentation abstract is available here.
About the conference
“Computing in Cardiology” (CinC) is a long-established international scientific conference that brings together researchers working in cardiology, engineering, data analysis, and digital technologies. Held annually since 1974, it provides an international forum for presenting and discussing the latest research in cardiology and cardiovascular physiology.
